One reason it's taking me so long to finish a bib is because I'm not sure how I want it to fasten. Here's my current, button-less idea: Or should I just use a button like everyone else?
Hmm. Well, it's unlikely to come off by itself, and since it will be at the back of the child's neck it would take a very strong and determined baby to yank it off. Also, this is not something the baby wears while left unattended. I was envisioning a baby pulling at the bib, causing the yarn toggle in your photo to slip through the buttonhole.
But you should do it the way you want to. If the yarn is hard to pull through the hole (but not too hard for the mother to be able to do it when she puts the bib on), that's OK. And since when have you taken your mother's advice, anyway? :-)

What's not to like about the button?
Oh, I invisioned it coming off and becoming a choking hazard.

At the moment it's pretty hard to pull through, but I guess I'll do a button.
